Das Textilunternehmen Franz M. Rhomberg verband seit den 1930er-Jahren das Dirndl mit einem Markenimage und kreierte damit eine Ware, die sich touristisch international, aber zugleich volkskundlich und ideologisch verankert gab. Attribute wie „stilecht“ oder „volksecht“ empfahlen Rhombergs Dirndlstoffe in Abgrenzung zu „Phantasiekostümen“. Nach 1945 erfuhr das Dirndl unter dem Etikett „Austrian Look“ eine erneute Aufwertung. Was vom Nationalsozialismus als Instrument der Zugehörigkeit missbraucht wurde und schon in der Zwischenkriegszeit der Identitätsbildung diente, war nun österreichischer Exportschlager. A wonderfully wry story about a young woman, an old man and the power of literature.

As a bookseller, elderly Mr Roch has always been surrounded by books. Now he's written his own "novel of the century".
