Born 1930 in Vienna, Holl died in 2020 in Vienna, where he had lived as a writer and freelance publicist. Holl was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1954. His book “Jesus in schlechter Gesellschaft” (1971) brought him into conflict with the Catholic Church and he was eventually suspended from his priestly duties in 1976. He received numerous awards, including the Austrian Staatspreis für Kulturpublizistik (2003) and the Axel Corti Prize (2006).
